Tell us a bit about your self:
Hi, I’m Ashish, Ashish Budhathoki.
I’m from Nepal, residing in Kathmandu.
Currently,I’m studying Information Technology and I’ve one last semester to go before i call myself an Engineer, hehe.
With the help of my classmates, we’ve built a start-up that develops softwares/websites and apps and we’re ready to kick off. And,I used to teach Computer Science and Mathematics as a part time teacher in a school.
I love listening to music esp those which were created in and around 90’s.
Radiohead is my favourite band.
I’m fond of Dreadlocks,I don’t call myself a loctician but i can make dreads too.
I spend several hours a day on my computer and phone playing games and doing stuffs that meets the geek credentials, lol.
And yeah, i play guitar and sing along too.
Traveling makes me happy and I love traveling.
Whenever i find a little gap inbetween the hectic days, I refuge myself into traveling ,which i feel as a shelter to forget the ritzy world and oxygenate my senses. Barpak,Gorka(Nepal) is my favourite place that I’ve ever been to. Seeing different places and people, helping them and discovering their stories, views and beliefs inspire me to be a better person. And i wish to travel all around the world someday.
What makes you happy:
I believe long term pure happiness from one particular situation or achievment is a reverie however i’d love to spend my life traveling and helping other people and thats what I think makes me happy.
How long have you had your dreadlocks?
2010 Nov 21, was the day i began my dreadlock journey. So, i’l be completing 4 years soon.
Why did you get dreadlocks done?
I’ve always been fascinated by dreadlocks. I wanted them since my childhood. Besides, Dreadlocks are the coolest hairstyle mankind have ever known.
And Dreadlocks are symbolism of Lord Shiva too. So, I wanted it done and wear them proudly.
How are your dreadlocks made?
My dreadlocks were made via Crotchet hookig method.
How do you take care of your dreadlocks?
I don’t follow any routine maintenance. I wash them whenever i feel to and make sure they’re clean and I use mustard oil every fortnight for the shine. I don’t use any dreadlock products as they’re not available in my country. So, i wash them with Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo which is pretty good. Recently, i used henna on my dreads which worked surprisngly well. And i separate the segments after each bath as they tend to fasten up to form a congo.
Do you have any persional tips about dreadlocks that you want to share with other dreadheads?
Keep your dreadlocks CLEAN. You’d be amazed how fast your hair learns to dread when you keep them clean. Be patient, dreadlocks won’t be awesome in an overnight, they take time, a lot of time. I don’t know about other methods but don’t over do Crotchet hooking. Stay away from the stereotypes who think dreadlock are gross and smelly. And be prepared for the tiresome and mind-numbing questions such as ”How do you wash your hair? ”, ”Are they real?” , ”How do you sleep? ” bla bla bla.......
Have you experieced any judgment towards you just because you are a dreadhead?
Yes, of course. I’ve been mocked up couple of times and gazed upon as if i were a criminal, an outlandish or extra-terrestrial being. I’ve been infuriated by repetative questions and annoying responses from the people living in so called ” educated and civilized” contemporary society.
What is your favorite dreadlock product?
I’ve not used any dreadlock products yet but recently i applied henna on them which has shown significant results on my dreads however washing them out completely turned out to be a very painful job. Oh, yes i use mustard oil on them for shine and nutrients.
Who is your favorite dreadhead?
I always picture Bob Marley whenever Dreadlocks comes in my mind.Elise Buch http://instagram.com/elise.buch is such an amazing lady with locks, and my fellow dreadhead friend Kapil (DreadHeartSoul) https://www.facebook.com/marleyunique, these people are my favourite dreadheads.
Do you have any tips and advice to someone that is thinking of getting dreadlocks but is dubtfull?
Having Dreadlocks is one of the best decision, i’ve ever made. There were so many people who were against it even my parents but that didn’t stopped me from doing it. Never see it as a struggle, see it as a new journey , a voyage ,with you and your hair and experience the bond you make with your hair as it grows and as a person you grow. Give them lots of love, patience and time and your hair would reciprocate you the same way by making you happier each day. Dreadlock is not a hairstyle, its a life style. And as the DreadStuff quotes ”Wear your dreadlocks proudly”.
How would you describe a perfect day in your life?
Actually i don’t picture a perfect day, i think we should be spontaneous so that we could experience and enjoy various aspects of this wonderful life.
