Manuel's Dreadlock Story
What is your name?
Manuel well on Insta it´s @manuuu_3 =)
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I´m a ”Ruhrpottkind” (child from western Germany and I still live there) I just finished school about a half year ago and now I´m working in a christian youth hostel and travel to the churches wich are connected to the organization this hostel belongs to.
When I travel one of the churches I´m preaching to the youth groups there.
I get inspired by music and my friends who live this life with me. By the way music is a huge thing in my life.
I love to listen to music, to make music and share it with other people. I also play a lot of instruments.
Yeah music is a great thing and the way I can bring out my feelings the most.
I also love how music is connecting different people.
What makes you happy?
Having my loved ones around me, sharing love to foreign people and to see how young people worship and proclaim how much they love Jesus.
How old are your dreadlocks?
My dreads are born at 21. April 2012 (my parents wedding-day) so they are about 3 and a half years now =)
Why did you get dreadlocks done?
I always wanted to have longer hair (I don´t really know why) and then I saw a friend of my family with his dreads with the age of 13 and thought to myself I could have dreads too when my hair gets long enough to dread them =)
How are your dreadlocks made?
The were made with backcombing and after that my hair was very short, so I let someone put some extentions in which I´ve kept in for about a year.
After this year I cut out the extentions so now the dreads are just grown the way there are.
And I´m very proud of their outcome =)
How many dreadlocks do you have?
Well I don´t know the exact count of them but something about 65 dreads are hanging around my head.
How do you take care of your dreadlocks?
Well I think my caring for them is really ”normal”.
I wash them almost once a week with a normal anti-dandruff shampoo and sometimes I take a bath with sea salt.
When I have too much lose hair which is bothering me I put it in the dreads with a crochet hook.
Thats all :D
Do you have any personal tips about dreadlocks that you want to share with other dreadheads?
Just have patience.
I think this is the key to be fine with your dreads especially in the first time of your dreads.
Have you experienced any judgment towards you just because you are a dreadhead?
In school they alway called me the drug-dealer but that don´t bothered me at all. Nowadays when I work with kids the sometimes think my hair is dirty or something but hey I don´t care :D
What is your favorite dreadlock product?
I don´t use any products. =)
Who is your favorite dreadhead?
Well I think it´s Janine (Insta: @encoreever) cause I think she is very pretty :D and also Ylva (Insta: @ylxa_) cause I´ve created her dreads and she´s a cool girl :D
Do you have any tips and advice to someone that is thinking of getting dreadlocks but is doubtful?
JUST DO IT! :D
How would you describe a perfect day in your life?
Beeing at a concert or festival with my boys, listening to good live music, drinking some beer and forget the whole world around us.
